RESUMO O manejo florestal pode acarretar inúmeras modificações na composição e diversidade dos organismos do solo, em diferentes magnitudes de acordo com o nível de interferência no habitat. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste estudo foi testar a influência de diferentes tipos de manejo florestal sobre a comunidade da macrofauna edáfica em área de Caatinga arbórea. O estudo foi realizado na Floresta Nacional Contendas do Sincorá, Contendas do Sincorá - BA. A área experimental foi constituída de três tipos de manejo (corte raso, corte seletivo por diâmetro e corte seletivo por espécie) e uma condição de Caatinga não manejada, que foi utilizada como controle. A macrofauna foi amostrada pelo método do monólito de solo, em duas épocas do ano (março e novembro). Foram estimadas as densidades, o número total de indivíduos, a riqueza total, a riqueza média e os índices de Shannon e de Pielou. A macrofauna do solo mostrou-se sensível às diferentes práticas de manejo florestal, sendo indicativa de que os cortes seletivos são sistemas mais conservacionistas de uso da Caatinga. Dentre esses, o corte seletivo por espécie mostra-se menos impactante à macrofauna do solo, proporcionando índices de diversidade e abundância mais expressivos e a ocorrência de organismos mais exigentes em condições de microclima, característicos de áreas preservadas. Os grupos predominantes da fauna edáfica, tanto na Caatinga não manejada quanto na manejada, foram Isoptera, Formicidae, Larvas de Coleóptera e Chilopoda.

ABSTRACT Forest management can lead to numerous changes of different magnitudes in the composition and diversity of soil organisms, according to the level of interference with the habitat. Within this context, this study aimed to test the influence of different types of forest management on the edaphic macrofauna community in a region of arboreal Caatinga. The study was carried out in Contendas do Sincorá National Forest, Contendas do Sincorá - Bahia. The experimental area consisted of three types of management (clear cutting, selective cutting by diameter at breast height and selective cutting by species), and a condition of unmanaged Caatinga, which was used as control. The macrofauna was sampled twice a year (March and November) using the soil monolith method. Densities, total number of individuals, total richness, average richness, and Shannon and Pielou rates were estimated. The soil macrofauna was shown to be sensitive to different forest management practices, which indicates that selective cutting is a more conservative system to manage the Caatinga. Among these, selective cutting by species proved to be less impacting on the soil macrofauna, providing more expressive diversity and abundance indexes, and the occurrence of more demanding organisms in microclimate conditions, characteristic of preserved areas. The predominant groups of edaphic fauna, both in the unmanaged as in managed Caatinga, were Isoptera, Formicidae, Chilopoda, and Coleoptera Larvae.

RESUMO A magnitude das alterações em atributos do solo pode ser utilizada para identificar efeitos de interferências naturais ou antrópicas em fragmentos florestais. Este trabalho objetivou avaliar atributos químicos do solo como indicadores de efeito de borda em fragmento de Floresta Estacional Semidecidual, no Sudoeste da Bahia. Foram definidas quatro faixas de amostragem no fragmento florestal (Faixa 1: 0-10m, Faixa 2: 40-50 m, Faixa 3: 80-90 m e Faixa 4: 400-410 m da borda). Uma área de pastagem nativa degradada foi utilizada como referência. Foram coletadas amostras de solo nas profundidades 0-5, 5-10 e 10-20 cm. As amostras foram submetidas a análises para determinação do pH e dos teores de matéria orgânica, P, K, Ca, Mg e Al. A camada superficial do solo mostrou-se sensível às variações impostas pela fragmentação, refletindo modificações em alguns dos seus atributos químicos até uma distância de 90 m da borda em direção ao interior do fragmento, com efeitos mais severos nos primeiros 10 metros. Matéria orgânica do solo, acidez potencial, CTC e pH foram os atributos mais afetados, evidenciando um gradiente de variação no sentido borda-interior.

ABSTRACT The magnitude of changes in soil attributes can be used to identify the effects of natural or anthropogenic interference on forest fragments. The objective of this work was to evaluate the chemical attributes of the soil as indicators of the edge effect at a Seasonal Semi-deciduous Forest fragment in the Southwest of Bahia, Brazil. Four sampling ranges were defined in the forest fragment (Range 1: 0-10m; Range 2: 40-50 m; Range 3: 80-90 m; and Range 4: 400-410 m from the edge). A degraded native pasture area was used as the reference. Soil samples were collected at depths of 0-5, 5-10 and 10-20 cm. The samples were analyzed for pH and organic matter, P, K, Ca, Mg and Al. The superficial layer of the soil was sensitive to the changes imposed by the fragmentation, reflecting modifications in some of its chemical attributes up to a distance of 90 m from the edge towards the interior of the fragment, with more severe effects in the first 10 meters. Soil organic matter, potential acidity, CEC and pH were the most affected attributes, evidencing a gradient of variation in the edge-interior direction.

ABSTRACT Shooting range activities risk contaminating the soil, posing potential risks to human health, the local biota, and water sources. Considering that soil organisms are the first to be affected by contamination, this study aimed to evaluate the initial growth of the leguminous tree Albizia polycephala and its association with microbes in soil taken from this area. The collected soil was placed in 60-ml tubes with legume seeds and stored in a greenhouse for 60 days. The differences in the legumes’ growth were not related to the physical and chemical properties of the soil, nor to its metal content, but rather to mycorrhizal colonization and nodulation, which were shown to be effective in creating favorable conditions. This indicates that the site under study has great natural potential for the establishment of tree species, which could be impaired if it continues to be used for shooting practice.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the edge effect using the macrofauna community of the soil as indicator in three fragments of Semi-deciduous Seasonal Forest in the city of Vitória da Conquista, Bahia, Brazil. Three sampling ranges denominated edge, transition and interior were delimited in each fragment. The macrofauna community was sampled at two seasons of the year (dry and wet). Monoliths were collected from soil at 10 cm depth in each range. The density and richness of the fauna, as well as the Shannon diversity index and the Pielou equitability index, were calculated. It was observed that the edge effect is expressed from the presence/absence of orders of individuals in the different fragment ranges, with no interference in the density, average wealth or number of individuals in each group. The edaphic community presents higher density and average richness in the dry period within the transition and interior range of the fragments.

RESUMO As atividades humanas causadoras de desmatamentos favorecem a fragmentação e a formação de bordas na floresta, modificando as características bióticas e abióticas do ecossistema, o que pode ser avaliado através de indicadores do solo. Com isso, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o estoque de serapilheira e a comunidade de fungos micorrízicos arbusculares (FMA) como indicadores do efeito de borda em um fragmento de Floresta Estacional em Vitória da Conquista, Bahia. Foram realizadas amostragens ao final de cada estação do ano. Para isso, foram delimitadas quatro faixas na direção borda-matriz (borda - 0-10 m, faixa 1 - 40-50 m, faixa 2 - 80-90 m e interior - 400 m). A serapilheira acumulada (quatro repetições por faixa) foi coletada com o auxílio de um gabarito de madeira (área 0,25 m2). Nos mesmos pontos em que se coletou a serapilheira foram coletadas amostras de solo (camada 0-5 cm) para extração dos esporos de fungos micorrízicos. O efeito de borda em fragmentos de Floresta Estacional Semidecidual pode alterar o estoque de serapilheira com redução de massa nos locais mais próximos da borda. A comunidade de fungos micorrízicos arbusculares apresentou a ocorrência de espécies exclusivas em determinadas faixas no gradiente borda-interior do fragmento.

ABSTRACT Deforestation causes the formation of forest fragments and edges, changing the biotic and abiotic conditions of a forest ecosystem. The edge effects in a forest can be assessed by soil indicators. The objective of this study was to evaluate the litter stock and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal community as edge effect indicators in a fragment of a seasonal forest in Vitória da Conquista, Bahia state. Sampling was carried out at the end of each season. Four sampling ranges were established in the edge-interior direction (edge: 0-10 m, range 1: 40-50 m, range 2: 80-90 m, and interior: 400 m). The accumulated litter was collected four times using a wooden template (area 0.25 m2). The soil samples (layer 0-5 cm) for extracting the spores of mycorrhizal fungi were collected from the same litter collection areas. The edge effect in areas of a seasonal forest can change the litter stock, showing a mass reduction closer to the edge. The community of mycorrhizal fungi shows the occurrence of unique species in the gradient of edge-interior fragment.

RESUMO A baixa fertilidade natural dos solos brasileiros requer o uso de inoculantes que facilitem a absorção de nutrientes pelas plantas. Os fungos micorrízicos arbusculares como biotróficos obrigatórios de raízes ativas desempenham esta função, porém o acesso a este recurso é limitado pela dificuldade na produção de inoculantes. Com isso, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a produção de inoculantes de FMAs nativos de solos sob diferentes coberturas florestais em Vitória da Conquista - BA, através da quantificação de esporos, taxa de colonização e identificação de espécies. Para isso, foram coletados solos nas coberturas florestais de Mata Nativa e em plantios de Madeira Nova e Eucalipto, colocados separadamente em vasos com braquiária e cultivados por cinco meses. No solo testemunha e a cada mês foram quantificados os esporos e identificadas as espécies de FMAs e, a partir do primeiro mês, avaliou-se a taxa de colonização das raízes da braquiária. Os inoculantes produzidos apresentaram diferenças no número de esporos e espécies, nas espécies de FMAs identificadas e na taxa de colonização das raízes, dependendo da cobertura florestal. Assim, considerando o aumento no número de esporos, espécies e colonização ao longo do tempo, o inoculante produzido a partir do solo da Mata Nativa apresentou-se mais promissor para o uso.

ABSTRACT The low natural fertility of Brazilian soils requires the use of inoculants that facilitate the absorption of nutrients by plants. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi such as obligatory biotrophics of active roots perform this function, but access to this resource is limited by the difficulty in producing inoculants. The objective of this study was to investigate the production of AMF inoculants native of soils under different forest covers in Vitória da Conquista, BA, by means of spore quantification, colonization rate and species identification. For this purpose, soils were collected from sites under Mata Nativa (native forest) and plantations of Madeira Nova (Pterogyne nitens) and Eucalyptus, placed into separate 500 mL disposable cups with seeds of Brachiaria sp. and cultivated for five months. Spores were quantified and the AMF species identified in the control soil (without brachiaria) and in the cups cultivated with brachiaria at each month. From the first month, the colonization rate of brachiaria roots was evaluated. The inoculants produced showed differences in the number of spores and species, in the AMF species identified, and in the root colonization rate as a function of the forest cover. Thus, considering the increase in the number of spores, species and colonization over time, the inoculant produced from the soil under native forest was more promising for utilization.

RESUMO O trabalho foi desenvolvido em uma área de pasto abandonada revegetada com leguminosas arbóreas. Localizada no município de Valença, RJ, nela foram utilizadas diferentes proporções de leguminosas arbóreas fixadoras de nitrogênio: 0% (0L), 25% (25L), 50% (50L) e 75% (75L). Para avaliação da macrofauna do solo, as amostragens foram feitas nas épocas seca e úmida, utilizando-se o método TSBF. Outras amostragens foram realizadas, ainda, em uma floresta secundária (FS) e em duas áreas de pasto (PA e PB). O processo de revegetação aumentou a diversidade da fauna do solo de uma forma geral. Formicidae foi o grupo da macrofauna de maior abundância em todas as áreas, para as duas épocas de avaliação. Na época chuvosa, houve aumento considerável na quantidade de invertebrados na camada serapilheira nos tratamentos 0L, 25L, 50L, 75L e Floresta Secundária, o que no período seco aconteceu na camada 0-10 cm.

ABSTRACT The study was conducted in an area of abandoned pasture located in the city of Valença (RJ) revegetated with tree legumes. Different proportions of nitrogen-fixing leguminous trees were used: 0% (0L), 25% (25L), 50% (50L) and 75% (75L). For evaluation of soil biota, samplings were made in the end of the dry season and in the rainy season. Samples were collected in the abandoned pasture, in a secondary forest, and in two grassland areas (PA and PB). The process of reforestation has increased the overall diversity of soil fauna. Formicidae was the group that stood out, being abundant in all treatments and in the two periods of collection. During the rainy season, a considerable increase in the amount of invertebrates in the litter layer was observed in the treatments 0L, 25L, 50L, 75L and in the secondary forest, while during the dry season, such increase occurred in the 0-10 cm layer.

RESUMO A diferença sucessional entre os fragmentos florestais reflete-se na comunidade da fauna do solo, mostrando-se um bioindicador eficiente. A não diferenciação entre terços indica que a degradação antrópica ocorre de forma homogênea em toda a extensão da encosta florestal.

ABSTRACT The succession difference between forest fragments is reflected in soil fauna community, being an efficient bioindicator. The non-differentiation between thirds indicate that anthropogenic degradation occurs evenly throughout the extent of slope forest.

RESUMO: O composto inteiramente vegetal, a partir da mistura de capim elefante e torta-de-mamona, apresenta-se promissor como adubo orgânico. No entanto, há preocupações quando se consideram os compostos químicos potencialmente tóxicos contidos na torta-de-mamona, como a ricina e ricinina. Assim, foram montadas pilhas de compostagem com diferentes relações C:N (T1 = 40; T2 = 30; T3 = 20; T4 = 30 (tratamento controle composto por Capim elefante + crotalária )) com o objetivo de avaliar, ao longo do tempo, a colonização da fauna edáfica e se a torta-de-mamona causa algum efeito supressor. A avaliação foi realizada com funis de Berlese-Tullgren. Houve diferenças pontuais entre os tratamentos, sendo a fauna epígea representada principalmente pelos grupos Acari e Entomobryomorpha. Verificou-se que o tempo é o principal fator na determinação da comunidade de fauna epígea associada à compostagem, indicando que o uso da torta-de-mamona não tem efeito supressor sobre a fauna edáfica ao longo do processo de compostagem.

ABSTRACT: Elephant grass and castor cake when combined can make a promising organic fertilizer. However, castor cake contains potentially toxic chemicals, such as ricin and ricinine. To test potential effects of these chemicals, compost piles of elephant grass ( Pennisetum purpureum Schum.) with castor cake were prepared with different C:N ratios (T1 = 40, T2 = 30, T3 = 20; T4 = 30 [control, elephant grass + crotalaria]) to evaluate colonization by edaphic fauna and any suppressive effects of castor cake. Soil organisms were collected with Berlese-Tullgren funnels. There were temporal differences between the treatments, and the epigeous fauna was mainly represented by members of the Acari and Entomobryomorpha. Elapsed time is the major factor in determining the composition of the epigeous fauna community associated with composting, indicating that castor cake has no suppressive effect.

RESUMO: A atividade decompositora de organismos da macrofauna edáfica, como os diplópodes, pode ser aproveitada para promover a transformação de resíduos agrícolas e urbanos, capaz de produzir um substrato de baixo custo para a produção de mudas de hortaliças. Este trabalho objetivou avaliar: (1) a quantidade de gongolo Trigoniulus corallinus Gervais suficiente para a produção de composto orgânico; (2) suas principais características físicas e químicas; (3) sua eficiência, quando utilizado para a produção de mudas de alface. O primeiro experimento durou 90 dias, utilizando 6,5 litros de gliricídea, 6,5 litros de flemingea, 13,5 litros de aparas de grama, 4,5 litros de papelão, 4,5 litros de casca de coco e 4,5 litros de sabugo de milho. Os volumes de gongolos utilizados como tratamento foram 0, 0,10, 0,30, 0,50 e 0,90 litros. Após 23 dias, foram avaliados os pesos da massa fresca e seca da parte aérea e das raízes e altura. O volume de 0,1 litros de gongolos mostrou-se suficiente para a produção de um volume aceitável de composto orgânico. Entretanto, a adição de maiores volumes proporciona aumento nos teores de cálcio, magnésio e fósforo. O gongocomposto apresenta características físico-química semelhantes ao vermicomposto, ambos igualmente eficientes quando utilizados como substrato para a produção de mudas de alface.

ABSTRACT: The putrefactive activity of organisms such as diplopods in the edaphic macrof auna can be leveraged to promote the transformation of agricultural and urban waste into a low-cost substrate for the production of vegetable seedlings. This research aimed to evaluate: (1) the quantity of Gervais millipedes ( Trigoniulus corallinus ) needed to produce an acceptable quantity of organic compost; (2) the main physical and chemical characteristics of different compost types; and (3) compost efficiency in the production of lettuce seedlings. The first experiment lasted 90 days and was conducted using 6.5L of Gliricidia, 6.5L of Flemingia, 13.5L of grass cuttings, 4.5L of cardboard, 4.5L of coconut husk, and 4.5L of corncob. Treatments consisting of 0, 0.10, 0.30, 0.50, and 0.90L of millipedes were applied. This experiment compared millicompost and vermicompost, using four repetitions. After 23 days, the heights of grown lettuce plants and the weights of the fresh and dry mass of above ground lettuce and of the roots were assessed. A millipede volume of 0.1L proved to be sufficient for the production of an acceptable volume of organic compost. However, the addition of greater volumes leads to increased calcium, magnesium, and phosphorous content. Millicompost has similar physicochemical characteristics those of vermicompost, and both are equally efficient as a substrate for the production of lettuce seedlings.

RESUMO O controle químico de plantas daninhas é um método eficaz utilizado em florestas plantadas e em áreas de restauração florestal, favorecendo o desenvolvimento das mudas florestais e a redução dos custos de intervenção. Entretanto, se essa estratégia não for aplicada de maneira correta, pode-se tornar um potencial causador de impactos negativos aos organismos do solo e aos processos ecológicos que esses participam. Avaliou-se o efeito do uso de herbicidas na biota do solo por meio da amostragem da comunidade da fauna edáfica e testes ecotoxicológicos de reprodução e sobrevivência de Folsomia candida eEnchytraeus crypticus, em área-alvo de restauração florestal recém-implantada. O delineamento experimental adotado foi de blocos casualizados com quatro tratamentos e cinco repetições. Os tratamentos consistiram da aplicação dos herbicidas pós-emergentes mesotrione (0,4 L ha-1), fluazifop-P-butyl (1,0 L ha-1) e nicosulfuron (1,5 L ha-1), aplicados em área total nas parcelas, mais o controle (sem aplicação). Na área de estudo, foram realizadas duas aplicações dos herbicidas com intervalos de seis meses, onde as parcelas foram correspondentes aos tratamentos em ambas as aplicações. Em cada parcela, foram realizadas quatro coletas de solo, sendo a primeira (coleta 1) seis dias antes da segunda aplicação dos herbicidas na área. As demais, após um (coleta 2), oito (coleta 3) e 22 dias (coleta 4) dessa mesma aplicação. A comunidade da fauna do solo foi avaliada por meio do método de funis de Berlese modificado, utilizando-se uma amostra de solo por parcela. Em laboratório, os indivíduos foram contados e identificados em grandes grupos. Os ensaios ecotoxicológicos de sobrevivência e reprodução de F. candida e E. crypticus foram realizados a partir de uma amostra composta de solo por tratamento. Um dia após a aplicação do herbicida mesotrione, verificou-se diminuição da riqueza média nos índices Shannon Weaver e Pielou e na reprodução de E. crypticus. Concluiu-se que a dupla aplicação dos herbicidas fluazifop-P-buthyl e nicosulfuron, nas respectivas doses de 1,0 e 1,5 L ha-1, não promoveu impactos negativos para os invertebrados do solo. Os efeitos negativos apresentados pelo mesotrione, mesmo que temporários, remeteu a uma ponderação sobre o uso desse em áreas de restauração florestal.

ABSTRACT Chemical control of weeds is an effective method used in planted forests and in forest restoration, which plays an important role in development of forest seedlings and reduces costs of intervention. However, when this strategy is not properly applied, it may have negative impacts on soil organisms and on the ecological processes in which they take part. The goal of this study was to evaluate the effects of herbicide use on soil biota through sampling of the soil fauna community and through ecotoxicological tests on the survival and reproduction of Folsomia candida and Enchytraeus crypticus in a target area of a recently-established forest restoration. A randomized block experimental design was adopted, with four treatments and five replications. Treatments consisted of applications of three post-emergence herbicides at different rates (mesotrione, 0.4 L ha-1; fluazifop-P-butyl, 1.0 L ha1; and nicosulfuron, 1.5 L ha-1). They were applied in the total area of the plots beyond an untreated check (without application). Two herbicide applications were carried out on the field under study at intervals of six months, and the plots corresponded to the treatments in both applications. A total of four soil samples were collected from each plot: sample 1, six days before the second herbicide application in the area; sample 2, one day after the application; sample 3, eight days after the application; and sample 4, 22 days after the application. The soil fauna community was evaluated through a modified Berlese funnel method using one soil sample per plot. Organisms were counted and identified in large groups in the laboratory. Ecotoxicological tests focusing on survival and reproduction of F. candida and E. crypticus were performed on one composite soil sample per treatment. One day after mesotrione application (sample 2), a strong decline was observed in average richness of organisms, Shannon’s diversity index, and the Pielou uniformity index, as well as reproduction of E. crypticus. The double application of the herbicides fluazifop-P-butyl and nicosulfuron does not cause negative impacts on soil invertebrates, whereas the application of mesotrione has negative effects, even if temporarily. Great care must be taken in applying it in forest restoration.

A arborização de pastagens visa a agregar diferentes usos do solo de um modo rentável a seu proprietário. Como este manejo visa a minimizar impactos, este trabalho objetivou utilizar a macrofauna do solo para avaliar os efeitos que a arborização por leguminosas causa sobre o solo, em suas diferentes profundidades. Para isso, foram inseridas espécies fixadoras de nitrogênio em uma pastagem, sendo a coleta da macrofauna realizada 6 anos após o plantio, nas camadas 0-10cm, 10-20cm e 20-30cm, no verão e inverno. A influência das leguminosas se deu de modo diferenciado entre as profundidades e estações do ano, com maior favorecimento da comunidade sob a copa das árvores do gênero Mimosa. Além disso, o efeito da variação sazonal climática sobre os invertebrados foi amenizada com a implantação das leguminosas arbóreas

Grasslands afforestation aims at adding different soil uses in a way they become profitable for their owners. As such handling aims at minimizing impacts, the current study had as its goal the use of soil macrofauna in order to evaluate legume afforestation effects on the soil, regardless the depth. Thus, nitrogen fixing species were inserted onto grassland areas and the macrofauna collection was performed 6 years after their planting in the 0-10cm, 10-20cm and 20.30cm layers, in winter and summer. Leguminous influence was different between depths and times of the year. It mostly favors communities under "Mimosa" Genus treetops. Besides, the effects from climatic seasonal variations on invertebrates were mitigated by the implementation of such legume trees

Os fungos micorrízicos arbusculares (FMAs) são organismos mutualistas obrigatórios, que facilitam a sobrevivência e o desenvolvimento de plantas. São influenciados pela cobertura florestal e por outros fatores bióticos e abióticos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a composição e a diversidade dos FMAs em solo sob três diferentes coberturas florestais, em Vitória da Conquista-BA. O plantio de Madeira-nova apresentou maior abundância de esporos que o plantio de Eucalipto. O fragmento de Mata nativa apresentou um grande número de espécies quando comparado com os plantios, sendo seis exclusivas deste local e com potencial de apresentar uma maior diversidade. Os FMAs apresentaram diferenças marcantes de composição e diversidade nas coberturas florestais avaliadas. A grande abundância de esporos e a homogeneidade amostral das espécies no plantio de Madeira-nova são fatores facilitadores para um futuro isolamento de FMAs.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are obligate mutualistic organisms that facilitate the survival and development of plants. They are influenced by forest cover and other biotic and abiotic factors. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the composition and diversity of AMF in the soil under three different forest covers in the municipality of Vitória da Conquista, Bahia state. The planting of Madeira nova showed greater abundance of spores then the planting of Eucalyptus. The Native Forest fragment showed a larger number of species when compared with plantations, with six unique species of the area studied, with potential to develop even greater diversity. AMF presented significant differences in composition and diversity in the forest covers assessed. The great abundance of spores and the homogeneity of sample species in the planting of Madeira nova are facilitating factors for further isolation of AMF.
